Highlights of the 2017 Golden Globes

Highlights of the 2017 Golden Globes

As expected the 2017 Golden Globes were fill hot red carpet moments, political agendas, awkward missed hugs, and none other than drama!  Here are the highlights of the 2017 Golden Globes.

Fashion

Favorite fashion moments of the night include: Mandy Moore’s cape, Chrissy Metz’s ability to pull off velvet, and Natalie Portman’s adorable yellow maternity dress. Who ever said it was only appropriate for Batman to wear a cape, clearly did not know the impact Mandy Moore would have on the fashion world when she donned a black cape that was attached to her Naeem Khan gown. With the plunging neckline, the delicately draped cape was the perfect touch to this stunning gown.

Chrissy Metz pulled off what most size 2 celebrities couldn’t. She flaunted her curvy figure in a full length velvet gown. The purple ensemble was complete with beautiful detailing around the waist and cuffs. The pregnancy glow was in full effect when Natalie Portman stepped onto the red carpet in a yellow Prada dress. Portman accessorized her bump by wearing vintage 1910 Tiffany jewelry. Baby glow and sparkle? Yes, please!

Politics

Politics are still in full force and Meryl Streep wasn’t about to let her opinion not get voiced. During her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Career-Achievement Award, Streep focused on the impact of Hollywood and the press along with a list of actors born outside of the US. Streep went on to mention the importance of diversity and how its absence would leave us with only football and MMA to watch on TV. Not sure about that, but the liberal audience exploded in applause.  Here is a video of the speech so you can decide for yourself.

Awkward Moments

Leave it to Emma Stone to make us cringe and laugh at the same time. When Damien Chazelle won a Golden Globe for directing La La Land, Stone who was seated next to him stood up to give him a hug. Stone did in fact star in the movie. Nonetheless, the moment she went in for the hand-in tux hug, Chazelle went to embrace his girlfriend, Olivia Hamilton. The two women laughed off what some would consider to be a “faux pas”. After the attempted hug, Stone could clearly be seen on camera saying, “Wow, that was really weird!”. Either way, this spunky red head always seems to find a way to be relatable to every woman. Emma, we love you!

The Big Winner

If you didn’t watch the Golden Globes, you have at least heard everyone talking about the movie, La La Land which took home 7 honors, breaking the ceremony’s record for the most wins. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling both starred in the musical. Jimmy Fallon even had some fun with the film by opening the ceremony up with a taped parody focused on the film.

The Poor Sport

Casey Affleck has drawn some negative attention following the awards. It was reported that there was a lack of available seating when Sylvester Stallone and his wife went to sit at their assigned table that included Affleck. Affleck was noted for not making any efforts to accommodate the Stallone’s, causing them to retreat back stage to watch the show. Casey is also under fire for not publicly thanking his star brother, Ben during his acceptance speech for Best Actor in, “Manchester by the Sea“. Yeesh Casey, get it together!
